Regular gel manicures soak the nail first, then apply polish. The Russian technique is dry, we use a professional e-file to refine the cuticle and apply the gel flush against the skin. That's why our sets last 4–5 weeks instead of 2.
When done by a trained nail artist, the e-file is gentle and precise on the cuticle. Our nail artists are trained specifically in the Russian e-file method, it's the technique we've used for seven-plus years on Clarence Street. Every metal tool is autoclave-sterilized between clients (hospital standard); e-file bits and abrasives are single-use.
Every reusable tool is autoclave-sterilized between clients, the same standard used for surgical instruments. The autoclave kills all microbes including spores by sealing tools in pressurized steam at over 121°C. Single-use abrasives like e-file bits and buffers are disposed of after each appointment. Hygiene isn't a feature, it's the baseline.
Four to five weeks for most clients. Because the gel sits flush to the skin from day one, lift at the cuticle is rare, most clients tell us their nails still look freshly done at the four-week mark.
